Patricia Core was born Oct. 1, 1948, in New Orleans, the second of three daughters.
She obtained her Realtor’s license in 1973, and by 1976 was vice president of Wagner & Truax, a real estate firm in Uptown New Orleans. While showing properties on the Northshore in 1978, Patricia fell in love with St. Tammany Parish and bought for herself one of the houses she visited.
The Assessor is required by the Louisiana Constitution to list, value and enumerate all property subject to ad valorem taxation on an Assessment Roll each year. The "ad valorem" basis for taxation means that all property should be taxed "according to value" which is the definition of ad valorem. The Assessed Value is a percentage of "Fair Market Value" or "Use Value" as prescribed by law.
When Patricia Schwarz Core became Assessor in 1993, there were 14 employees, a lack of technology, very few properties were measured and the paper records that did exist were scarce. Citing overwhelming support from friends, family, and constituents, St. Tammany Parish Assessor Patricia Schwarz Core formally announced today that she will seek re-election in the fall. Assessor Core issued the following statements:
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve this community as the Parish Assessor. With hard work and determination, we have modernized the department by utilizing breakthrough technology to electronically categorize records and to accurately identify and assess properties.
